Format
In this workshop you will learn the basics of genetic extraction and testing, using your own DNA. You will start by extracting and purifying your own DNA using a non-invasive mouthwash-type method. You will then use PCR (a DNA amplification method) to test a few human SNPs (a type of simple genetic variation). Finally you’ll visualise your tested DNA on an agarose gel.
About the presenter
Bethan Wolfenden is the co-founder of Bento Lab, the DNA lab that goes with you. She believes that bringing molecular and synthetic biology to a wider audience will enable innovation all over the world. She has a biochemistry degree from University College London.
